Australian Democrats Abroad
Stay involved, wherever you are!

It’s pretty obvious Australians love to be on the move – we can be found in almost any spot around the world. We know many of you still hold a keen interest in the domestic political scene, and it’s worth remembering that your vote at election time can make a real difference. The Australian Democrats need your support, regardless of where you are.

There are many things you can do:
> Make sure you are enrolled as an overseas voter so that your vote will count
> Vote for us at election time
> Stay informed by subscribing to our eBulletins or Election Alert, or joining our Discussion Board
> Help us at election time from where you are

Don’t loose your right to vote!

The Howard Government has made it hard for Australians abroad to remain on the electoral roll – you now need to enrol as an ‘overseas elector’ and you must attempt to vote at each election or your status may be revoked.

Keep your right to vote up-to-date:
> CHECK your enrolment status using the AEC online database
> If you ARE NOT enrolled, download the Application for enrolment from outside Australia form from the AEC website
> If you ARE enrolled, register as an Overseas Elector by downloading the Application for registration as an overseas elector form from the AEC website

Democrats Abroad - stay involved!

We encourage you to maintain your interest in the Australian Democrats while overseas.

An easy way to do this is to subscribe to our Election Alert. We will notify you when an election is called to let you know our campaign issues and candidates, as well as providing details on how and where to vote.

Alternatively, you can subscribe to one of our eBulletins and keep up-to-date on issues closest to your heart.

You can also join the Democrats Abroad Discussion Forum and start talking with other Democrats in your region (Europe, Middle East & Africa, Asia, Americas).

Vote for us at election time

If you are abroad there are two ways to vote in an election, by:
(a) voting in person at an overseas polling venue or
(b) applying for a postal vote.

Details of venues and application forms are available once an election is called. We will endeavour to include such information on this page once it is available, or subscribe to our eBulletin and we will email you with regular updates.

Help us at election time

It is worth remembering that overseas voters can make a very real difference in Australian elections. This is why it is important that the Australian Democrats get our policy and agenda across to as many potential voters as possible.

You can help at election time by:
1. ensuring your local voting venue has stocks of our HOW TO VOTE forms
2. distributing our campaign material at venues in your city where Australians congregate
3. writing to local media, particularly those that target expats
4. handing out HOW TO VOTE forms at your local voting venues
5. encouraging your friends and colleagues to check their enrolment status.

We hope to put together a Campaign Toolkit Abroad for the upcoming Federal Election with campaign material relevant for your region.
