To the Honourable the President and Members of the Senate in Parliament assembled. The Petition of the undersigned draws to the attention of the Senate the lack of support by the Australian population for the Access Card. The legislation is substantially inadequate in relation to protecting the privacy rights of Australians and does not address significant security risks associated with the card and a centralised database of every Australian. The Access Card system will cost taxpayers at least 1.1 billion dollars that could be better spent on education, health, climate change and other social issues. Your petitioners believe: a) the creation of one database is dangerous and should not occur; b) the Access Card will not combat fraud; and c) the Access Card will be open to abuse. Your petitioners therefore request the Senate not proceed with its Human Services (Enhanced Service Delivery) Bill 2007 and Human Services (Enhanced Service Delivery) (Consequential Provisions) Bill 2007. Signed:
