For 16 years, Senator Stott Despoja has produced Youth Poll to give young people a say on a variety of issues including education, health and employment.
This year marks the Senator's final Youth Poll in her capacity as a Senator for South Australia, and she is urging the new Minister for Youth, Kate Ellis, to adopt the initiative.
This poll - the Senator's last as her Senate term ends on June 30 - found that while the internet plays a critical role in young people's lives, more than one-fifth report they or a friend have been bullied or harassed online.
Youth Poll 2008 also found: 58% of respondents support same-sex marriage; rates of binge drinking, smoking and other drug use have declined compared to previous polls; and, body image is a major concern to 54% of those surveyed.
