Paul Kavanagh is the Democrats candidate for the Albert Park by-election.
“The Albert Park electorate needs an independent, Democrats voice in the Victorian lower house - a passionate advocate for a more progressive state”, according to Paul Kavanagh.
“The Democrats have a positive contribution to make at the state level, building on their achievements in the Senate over the last 30 years.”
“Melbourne’s inner bayside quality of life is being eroded under this government’s big events and ‘development at all costs’ mentality, poor planning and failure to address worsening traffic congestion.”
“Albert Park is better served with public transport than some electorates but there is still poor public transport in Elwood and no link between St Kilda and Port Melbourne and it has a poor bicycle network, despite the great commuting opportunities.”
“Schools in the area need funds for capital works, childcare is in short supply, as are aged care places and the gentrification of the area has displaced older people and those who rely on affordable rent”.
“Government land in this electorate has been sold off with little regard to keeping these services in the local area.”
“Not enough has been done to conserve water. The $3.1 billion for a desalination plant could buy a million household water tanks connected to laundry and toilets and avoid adding 2% to our electricity demand.
“I will work for a more humane and compassionate Victoria, support an innovative, prosperous economy and protect Victoria’s exquisite natural, urban and cultural environment.”
