Original Democrat and International Policy Consultant to coordinate National Policy
The Australian Democrats are very pleased to announce that Dr Peter Nelson has been appointed to the role of National Policy Coordinator.
Dr Nelson will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the work of the policy working groups of the Australian Democrats, working with the various subject experts who have taken on policy stream coordinator roles, to develop a comprehensive platform of insightful and inspired policy for the party.
Dr Nelson was one of the founders of the Australia Party and introduced Don Chipp at a lunch in Hobart where he launched the Australian Democrats.
"The original ‘keep the bastards honest' quote still rings in my ears. I personally would like to follow this legacy and try and take some of the spin out of politics." Dr Nelson said.
An economist and chartered accountant, he has expertise in a broad spectrum of development assistance, covering work in 51 countries on project management, policy analysis, business development, restructuring, public enterprise reform, SME development, financial management and governance.
Dr Nelson has recently returned to Australia from working with the World Bank. The Australian Democrats are honoured to have someone of his expertise take on this crucial role and assist in rebuilding the party he helped to found.
