Qld Democrats announce Senate candidates

The Queensland Australian Democrats have announced Paul Stevenson and Jen Cluse as the Senate candidates for the forthcoming Federal election.

The No.1 candidate is Paul Stevenson, OAM. Paul is an Australian psychologist, and recognised authority within the field of trauma management. Paul is a prolific author, and has also been involved on the ground in numerous disaster response efforts in both Australia and overseas.

The support candidate is Ms Jen Cluse. Jen is a retired pilot, with extensive experience in both the RAAF and in the commercial world, both in Australia and overseas. Jen has a special professional interest as a former pilot in the alarming growth of CO2 emissions.

Paul Stevenson believes the role of the Senate and the role of the Australian Democrats are crucial: "The Australian Democrats have a special role as the voice of moderation - the voice of sanity almost - in looking at issues on their own merits. Australia needs the Democrats more than ever".

Jennifer Cluse
Australian Democrats Senate candidate for Queensland

Jennifer Cluse has worked as a radio tech in the RAAF, then a flying instructor, later an aviator in airlines, and finally flying overseas in semi-government executive services, to head of state level.

As a person who is always looking for solutions, Jennifer found that the Australian Democrats were the only people who seemed to grasp the big picture, with meaningful policies, and the party joined in 2004. She was a candidate in the 2007 federal election for the seat of Lilley in 2007.

Jennifer is deeply concerned about the 200-year graph of CO2 levels in the atmosphere.

“In electronics terms it’s like a feedback loop with speaker howl. Things have to change quickly, or we will be in trouble, type unknown. We now know that CO2 is just one of the greenhouse gasses we produce. The output of Greenhouse Gasses must be reduced to the planet’s ability to absorb them by 2016 to break the feedback loop.”

In the last three years I concentrated on balancing my own carbon signature, while trying to find a technological answer. To Jennifer, the Australian Democrats still have the best understanding of the difficulties of restraining then reducing emissions.

Jennifer believes that when holding the balance of the Senate vote, the Australian Democrats have, and definitely will in future, offer calm assessment of all legislation being offered to the Senate, negotiate to remove poor concepts or excesses, and be an effective protector of the national, and global, interest. “We deserve better guidance.”
