Paulene Hutton has lived in Launceston, Tasmania, for over ten years. Whilst living here, she has had the opportunity to work in a combination of youth justice and community services. Her experience in this area has given her a deep insight into some of the crucial issues being faced by every day Tasmanians.
Her passion in politics is founded on a passion for today’s youth, in particular, youth justice.
“I believe that the system has failed our young people.” Paulene says, “I believe that the system needs to be changed to ensure that our youth do not become trapped in a cycle of offence and detention, and have the opportunities that they deserve.”
She also has a strong passion and belief in the areas of mental health, particularly from a preventative perspective. She believes in increasing resources available to the Mental Health sector, to provide room and resources to function under continuing pressure over the coming years.
Paulene has a strong desire to bring a level of reason and fairness to the Australian Senate, and to the Australian people.
Tim Neal is a student at the University of Tasmania’s Hobart Campus. He is currently studying a combined Arts/Law degree.
Tim also has a passion for the young people of Australia, in particular ensuring that today’s young people are given every opportunity to grow, succeed and flourish as they enter their adult lives.
“As a student myself, I understand the pressures that students face every day. If elected, I will lobby the government to not only reduce HECS, but eventually abolish it completely.”
Tim also holds close to his heart, the issues surrounding the rights of same sex couples. He says: “While there have been advancements in how the law recognises gay couples, it does not go far enough. It’s not about gay rights, it’s about equal rights.”
Tim also believes in bringing reason and fairness back to Australian politics and the Australian Senate.
