“I choose to be a candidate for the Australian Democrats as I want to be part of the proud history of being the people’s watchdog in the Senate, committed to making our decisions on evidence and best practice.”
“I also intend to promote the manufacturing rather than the construction of residential projects, by rethinking TAFE / high school collaborations so we build the nation, one traineeship/apprenticeship at a time!” ”

Vote 2 Tom Tapping
Candidate in the Senate for Queensland
“I became increasingly disillusioned with the major parties and their reluctance to provide a vision or leadership, I was attracted by the Democrats’ ‘Sensible Centre’ and ‘Evidence-based policy’ approach.
I am an admirer of the role the party played since its inception with its ‘Keep the bastards honest’ theme. We need be in the parliament to keep government focused on the running the country instead of simply being re-elected and that’s as relevant today as it was when the party formed in the 1970’s.

“I want to work with the government to undertake real change for long-term growth in Australia. Everyone knows the tax system is dysfunctional and only serves a wealthy few so major reform is needed.”
Tom is an entrepreneur with vast experience in media, sport, events and entertainment. He has owned, operated and managed a variety of organisations throughout his career, many with a specific focus on community development.
Originally an aircraft engine fitter in the RAAF, he moved to music, media and business with a particular interest in the development of technology.
Tom has over 35 years’ experience as a business owner, operator and manager.
“Housing requires more action to really make a difference to the many unable to enter the market. Long term energy is a clear point of contention however I believe a strong economy is the heart of the focus. With it, we can expand, support and prosper. Without it, cuts in spending and support are inevitable “
“No business (or government) ever cut its way to prosperity. We need to ensure much more fairness in how we support all people, not just a few along the way. Middle Australia is being largely ignored because of the short term thinking of recent governments.”
