Your Privacy
The Australian Democrats support strong, enforceable privacy
protection which covers both the Federal Government and the
private sectors.
The Australian Democrats strong stance on privacy extends beyond
policy principles and legislative ideals. In fact it extends to its
own activities including the administration of the
www.democrats.org.au website.
The Australian Democrats endeavour to not only comply with the law
but also set a best practice standard for the management of a website.
What information do we collect?
The Australian Democrats collect only the information voluntarily
supplied by you. The website does not use cookies or other tools to
monitor your navigation through our website. Nor does the Australian
Democrats monitor your navigation on the web more generally by
recording the websites (from which) you visit our site or the websites you visit
upon exiting our site.
The information voluntarily supplied by you includes the following:

- Credit Card Details and name and address as required for the purpose of online membership.
What do we do with this information?
You are in control of what we do with information provided by you.
This information is used for the purpose that is stated at the point
of collection. That is it is used to send you further information as
requested.
This information will not be provided to third parties without your
consent for the purpose of marketing or for any other purpose.
The Australian Democrats may provide information to certain parties
when required by law. For example the Australian Democrats might be
required to produce documents to a court in answering a subpoena
issued by a court. Another example of where the Australian Democrats
might be compelled by law to disclose information provided by you is
in complying with the Australian Electoral Commission Act.
Any questions about this website should be directed to
webmaster@democrats.org.au
Who has access to this information?
Office bearers of the Australian Democrats and employees are provided
with access to the information for the purpose of carrying out their duties.
For example if you provide your postal address for the purpose of receiving
information from the Australian Democrats, an office bearer will be provided
with access to your personal details for the purpose of providing you with
the information that you requested.
Credit Cards
Where credit cards are used for financial transactions, the credit cards details
are not stored within our database, systems or logfiles. Only the transaction
outcomes are stored, for example, the amount, and whether the transaction was
authorised or not, and the transaction reference number. The transaction is always
carried out using high level, 128 bit, encryption techniques.
Your Security
Many parts of the Australian Democrats web site use high level secure
links, for certain transactions, like credit cards. You will be able to identify those
pages, as the address will change to begin with "https://secure.democrats.org.au/"
Also, in the bottom right hand corner of your web browser window, you will see a
closed yellow padlock, indicating a security certificate is in use. You can double
click that padlock to obtain more information about the certificate in use.
All certificates use very strong encryption technology (1,024-bit RSA & 128-bit RC4).
This security system is considered to be best practice, and is the same as that used by
many Australian banks.
