The Qld Division has a long history with the Australian Democrats, with the Michael Macklin from Qld being elected as to a Senate position in 1980 - only 3 years after the Australian Democrats party was originally formed.

The Qld Division is proud of this heritage and are working hard to restore the Australian Democrats to the senate and help maintain a just balance of power in the Government. To do this, we need your support in 3 core areas:

Awareness

Through campaigning at the last Federal and various state elections, it is clear that many people do not realise the Australian Democrats still exist as a party. Whilst we are financially constrained in our outreach as we rely solely upon the money from Donations and membership, we try as best we can to give visibility and reassurance to the Australian public that we are still a viable alternative to the major parties.

We have put much work in place into Podcasts, social media, and traditional media to try to raise awareness but the real awareness is word of mouth - the more people talk about us, the more awareness exists. More awareness means more votes, more votes mean we have more chance of putting members in to Senate positions to 'keep the bastards honest' for you, the Australian public.

Membership

There are over 5.6 million people in Qld yet the Qld Division does not yet have the numbers to be a state party on their own right - this is where we need you! Join us on our journey towards bringing fairness and equality back in to the Australian Government at both the Federal and State levels. You can be a supporter member (no cost) or a paid-up ordinary member who has voting rights within the party - the choice is yours 🙂 But why be a member of a political party? Your membership helps in many ways, from supporting the party financially (for those who choose to join as a paid-up member) to allowing us to put Corflutes and banners in your yard to help increase awareness! As a paid-up member you have voting rights within the party and can choose to become an elected official to help set to the direction of the party going forward!

Fundraising

Putting up candidates in an election is a costly business as there is a cost per candidate that needs to be paid to the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) but then there's the cost of campaigning itself - which often dwarfs the cost paid to the AEC. Unlike the major parties we rely solely upon paid-up memberships, volunteers, and any voluntary payments made. We need your help to cover these costs in order to give us the best chance possible to be able to run Candidates in the election - and we do this for what we believe is the good of Australia and the Australian public - so please, consider becoming a member

Message from QLD Division President

My name is Glenn Crawford, the President of the Qld Division. I work in IT and throughout my career have worked locally, internationally, for large and small corporations, as well as governments. Through my life experiences I have come to see the importance of being politically involved, as the only way to fix some broken systems are from inside the system.

I know a lot of Australians see voting day as an annoying inconvenience however they are then severely impacted by the decisions made on those days without understanding that they are the people who can make a difference. I wanted to make a difference and that's why I joined the Australian Democrats - the difference I make may only be small but any difference is better than no difference.

I strongly encourage you to look at the parties and their philosophies, then consider which party is right - I hope it is the Australian Democrats as I would love to see you come along to make a difference on shaping the future of Australia and Australians.
