Luke Arbuckle – no. 1 Senate candidate for Qld

Tell us about yourself

I am an agribusiness graduate, member of AgForce’s grains board and a farmer at Goondiwindi. I rely on the environment, I trust the science of climate change and we need to be acting on it. I feel grateful and humbled to have been selected as the lead candidate for Qld.

Why choose to be a candidate for the Democrats?

I witnessed first-hand how farmers’ interests are often set aside when they clash with those of powerful corporations and industry lobby groups – practices that undermine democracy and pervert the policy process. I had to do something about it!

What would you most want to achieve in your first term as a Senator?

Greater investment in renewable energy projects (in particular ones that create jobs in rural and regional Australia), and more sustainable agriculture through investment in agricultural research and development.

Luke is the Democrats spokesperson for Environment, Sustainable agriculture and Rural and regional affairs.

Supporting Luke is:

Chris Simpson, Democrats no. 2 Senate candidate for Qld and spokesperson for Affordable Housing

Chris finished a master’s degree in project management and previously worked on major gas and oil projects. He left that behind when he became concerned about climate change and felt he could no longer continue to work in that industry.
