This episode was recorded the day the Albanese government and the Greens came to an agreement on the implementation of the safeguard mechanism, originally developed by Tony Abbott’s government, and adopted and modified by the Albanese government as a key plank of their policy for real action on climate change.

While something is better than the nothing the Coalition under Scott Morrison seemed determined to ensure was implemented, Steve is frustrated by the continued lack of urgent action on the climate emergency, and that the modified safeguard mechanism will likely not go far enough in meeting our commitments under the Paris agreement or even Labor’s own policy position. This is reflected in his language on the podcast (content warning).
